Le Bloc devrait lui aussi dénoncer l’interdiction pour s’assurer du soutien des régions pro-armes à feu
The four remaining Conservative leadership candidates have slammed Trudeau’s gun ban today, calling it « frustrating » and « misleading. »
Dr. Leslyn Lewis, Erin O’Toole, Peter MacKay, and Derek Sloan have all made statements denouncing the Trudeau government policy.
In a statement made on Facebook, the Toronto-based Lewis said that « The Liberals are using the recent tragedy in Nova Scotia to ram through new gun regulations. I can’t even explain how frustrating this is to see. »
« I will do everything in my power to keep our communities safe. But this new Liberal ban does not do that. It should be repealed, » she added.
Erin O’Toole, on the other hand, made a slightly longer statement on Facebook, saying that the gun ban proves that Trudeau « chooses time after time to mislead and divide Canadians. »
Going further still, O’Toole said « to politicize a tragedy like this is beneath the dignity of the office of Prime Minister. It is an insult to the victims and a disgusting attack on the rights and freedoms of all Canadians. »
This gun ban was triggered after the devastating mass-shooting in Nova Scotia. Peter MacKay, who is from the maritime province, said that « as a Nova Scotian, I am outraged that Justin Trudeau is using our tragedy to punish law-abiding firearms owners across Canada. »
« As Prime Minister, I can guarantee to all Canadians that I will never take advantage of a tragedy like this to push a political agenda, » continued the former foreign affairs minister.
MacKay has not always followed this tune. In 2000, The Post Millennial unearthed an op-ed written by the leadership candidate where he argued for the banning of « assault rifles and automatic weapons. »
Finally, the controversial leadership candidate Derek Sloan called the gun ban « Outrageous. »
« The Liberal government wants to bypass Parliament and roll out a new firearms ban tomorrow. No debate, no votes = no representation for licensed, law-abiding Canadians. »
